Hello …
Okay … so this is the problem I’m having …
Every Friday … around 12 noon or there around …
When I wanna take a shower befor Friday Prayer …
The tap would just run dry … and stay dry …
On weekdays … the same happens around morning 7 …
Guess everybody who lives in the building …
Wanna take showers at the exact same times …
I’ve talked to some of my friends about this …
Especially those who live a few floors up …
And it seems they have the same problem …
I dunno about you … but for me …
Its kinda frustrating when I have to …
Run around in the toilet … trying to get wet …
This is like the smallest city in the world …
Seriously … how hard is it gonna be …
To up the water pressure … at these times …
I can understand that a pulsating shower head …
Or an aerated water stream may be difficult …
But come on guys … open up those valves …
Give us more water … we do pay for it right ???

I do like the idea of being always connected …

Hello …
Been waiting to find time to upgrade my blog …
This week … I finally managed to do it …
I updated wordpress … to version 2.5 …
It wasn’t as easy as I expected … it never is …
I had some broken links after the upgrade …
Had to manually fix them … thats messed up …
I’ve mixed feelings about this latest version …
When you first login … its amazing …
The admin area is well done … its really nice …
The dashboard is really kewl … and makes sense …
I like the new stats feature built right in …
I also found a liked the fullscreen mode …
What i did not like was … media management …
Everything was ajax’ed and changed …
I still dunno my way around most of it …
Hell … I had to reupload most of my images …
Just to get my thumbnails to work …
May be I need some time getting used to it …
Also … I changed my hosting …
This blog was previously hosted on site5.com …
My new host is the Grid Service at MediaTemple …
It all the rage these days … with positive reviews …
Let me know how this blog works for you …
If its unusually slow or anything like that …

Hello …
So everybody was talking about earth hour last week …
It was like all over the web… even on mvblogs …
I thought to myself that this is a good initiative …
I wanted to do my part in the conservation/awarness program …
So I set my cell phone alarm to remind me the day and the hour …
I was doing some work in my room when the alarm went off …
So naturally… I switched off most of my electrical stuff …
Thinking that many in the city would be doing the same …
That Male’ would be different somehow… may be even dark …
I headed out to my balcony to have a cigarette …
Too take in the scene… and see how people were reacting …
I was amazed that I didn’e see anything different …
I didn’t see any buildings powered down … not a single one …
The city didn’t seem to given a damn about it …
I had my cigarette… flicked it off … came back to the room …
Turned everything back on … and started working …
So much for tokenism… I kinda knew that it wouldn’t work …
It would’ve worked… if all power stations in the country …
Shut down at a pre=determined time … if not … sorry no way …
The sun comes up… the sun goes down… the lights remain on …
Some darkened their blogs… and some darkened their websites …
I’ve mine darkened year round… thats my bit… make do …

I wanted to share a very kewl resource I’ve discovered …
Its called … The Week in Photography … or TWIP …
It a weekly audio podcast … with some video tutorials …
They have a blog at www.twipphoto.com … check it out …
The show comes from Pixelcorps … in San Francisco …
These are the same guys who bring us famous stuff like …
This Week in Tech (TWIT) and MacBreak … among others …
TWIP is a fairly new show … only two months old today …
It debuted number 1 in tech category in iTunes …
And quickly rose to top 100 … and remained there since …
I listen to the show almost religiously … and I can tell you …
For amateur hobbyist photographer like most of us here …
Its a very good show … informal … informative and fun …
Check it out if you’ve time … take a listen … be a TWIPer …
Also … if you listen to or know of any other shows like this …
Let me know what they are … I’d like to give ‘em a listen …

Its been more than three days …
And this blog is still not available on ROL network …
It works fine on dhiraagu netwrok …
It works fine for everyone abroad …
But it just doesn’t seem to work on ROL network …
I dunno what I am doing wrong here …
Did I pluck a sensitive chord … ???
Or someone is playing a trick on me … ???
Either way … I don’t know how to fix it …
And apparently … nor does the support at ROL …
Anyways … I hope they resolve it soon …
Coz not being able to access one’s blog …
And getting emails and texts about it …
Is not that great a feeling … trust me …

I’ve always been amused by good photography …
The amazing shots we see can have that effect on many …
I’ve always wanted to go out and shoot a few shots myself …
But all i did was procrastinate… as I had no reason to shoot …
Few weeks ago… while surfing the internet …
I came across several daily photo blogs of cities …
I liked the idea of having a daily photo blog …
To display images of one’s city … a photo a day …
I thought may be I could have a photo blog for Malé …
As photos of Maldives were everywhere on the net …
But Male’ was at best… under represented … right … ???
But I was skeptical … I had my doubts if I can pull it off …
Especially when they say that its not as easy as it may sound …
Later that day I met up with nazeeh … and talked it over …
He was as excited as I was … probably more …
He wanted a reason to go out and shoot as well … to practice …
And having daily photo blog was an interesting commitment …
So we began working on it together … and here it is …

Have a look … let us know what you think of it …
The idea is to update it every day with a fresh new picture …
With an explanatory… descriptive and a helpful caption …
We know it’ll not be easy maintaining a photo blog like this …
Some even say Malé is not big enough for 365 pictures a year …
But we’ll try our best to do this… am sure its worth a shot …
So far we’ve both loved and hated the challenges of the project…
Constantly discovering ways to present our small city …

I went to one of the stalls in the carnival today …
It was early morning and I ordered a nescafé milk coffee …
And what you see in the picture above is what they brought me …
It was cup of milk (apparently not ordinary… but powdered) …
With a spoon of nescafé coffee dumped on top of it …
I called the waiter … and had a chat with him …
Below is how our little conversation went …

Me: I ordered a nescafe milk … what is this … ???
Waiter: This IS a nescafe milk … this is how we make it here …
Me: No this a cup of milk… i can still see the coffee on top …
Waiter: Give in some time… the coffee will eventually sink …
Me: Can you bring me a regular cup of coffee well stirred ???
Waiter: No … this is the only type of coffee we make here …
Me: What if i ordered a black coffee … what’ll you bring me ???
Waiter: A cup of hot water with a spoon of coffee on top …

There are lotsa types of coffees going around these days …
Some distinctively creative in methods of preparation …
Others not so … giving the same coffee cooler names everyday …
So beware what kinda coffee you order when in a café …
You may be surprised with what you are served … hehe …

So am spending as much time indoors as possible …
Just wanted to point out this facebook thingy I noticed …
Remember how you had to word your status carefully …
Cos you had to start something like “Subcorpus is … ”
Well … the IS has now been dropped … thanks facebook …
Its a bit more flexible now … with more room for creativity …
Rather than saying “subcorpus is enjoying bond movies” …
I can write “subcorpus enjoys watching bond movies” …
Am sure the smarter lot among us is gonna mess with this…
