People ask me why I changed to Wataniya …
They say only fishermen and Bangladeshis use Wataniya …
I say … I don’t care … Its better and cheaper for me …
With Wataniya … I can stay on budget with ease …
And I don’t have to fill up a form every time I talk to them …
Also my ISP is not Dhiraagu … I use a Focus connection …
You know those coffee table wars on which ISP is better …
I have a heard good and bad things about both ISPs …
I’ve a Focus connection at home and I’m ok with it …
It might not be best or fastest … but it gets the job done …
These days … all I hear about Dhiraagu is that …
How cool and how fast their new 10mbps connection is …
I’ve tested it and it seems very fast … thats good …
But I don’t understand this ad I found on Haveeru Online …
They say Home Premier costs MRF 690/- and you get 20GB …
They also say Home Premier is MRF 2100/- and you get 30GB …
This doesn’t make any sense to me … how about you ???
Why would anyone have 2 packages with the same name …
Also … who in their right mind would go for MRF 2100/- package …
When you can get 3 MRF 690/- packages for MRF 2100/- …
And get 60GB free … you get my drift … ???
Dhiraagu 10mbps connection may be all the rage …
But I think I’ll stay with my unlimited Focus connection for now …
Also … I do use a Dhiraagu unlimited connection at office …
Its not that fast … but its pretty decent for the price …

Its a good dramatic film and invokes good emotions …
Overall … an awesome movie … highly recommended …
No wonder it won a few awards and got nominated for so many …

I’ve this tendency to save my docs/PDFs online …
I do this coz I wanna have access where ever I may be …
You never know when you might need a copy of your ID card …
Or a copy of your passport for that matter … hehe …
I used to save my stuff in Yahoo! Briefcase since 2000 …
But some how … I missed their (multiple) announcements …
And around mid this year … I lost all my stuff with them …
That was a major bummer … but luckily I had backups …
I had copies of everything important … that was a life saver …
Since then … I’ve been looking around for a new service …
I settle on not one but two services … you know just in case …
One is Upload Robots … a fairly new service on the market …
They offer 4GB of storage free … more if you go pro …
I like their site … really like the user interface …
I also mirrored everything to my apple dot mac account …
A paid service … expensive … but easy to use with my OS …
They rebranded the service recently… its now known as dot me …
Guess with my stuff on two separate services …
The possibility of loosing it will be kept minimum … hehe …

I was browsing the site today when I found this ad …
Apparently … a resort is looking for a dive instructor …
With a an instructor certificate … thats OK … right …???
So far so good … but what blew me away was that …
The ad says the dive instructor should speak 9 languages …
Yes … 9 languages … lets list them shall we …
English … French … Spanish … Japanese … Italian …
German … Russian … Chinese … and Korean …
I dunno about you … but I’ve never even heard of a diver …
Who can speak like 9 languages … I dunno that guy …
And I’m pretty sure you won’t either … cos its just not real …
And the fact they are looking for 8 such divers … awesome…!!!
They are just putting up ads … just for the sake of it …
How else can you explain this sorta stuff …??? Hehe …

Few days back … on recommendation from some of my friends …
I downloaded and watched a documentary called ‘Home’ …
And I tell you … it was awesome … it totally blew my mind …
Home by Yann Arthus-Bertrand is a beautifully shot panorama …
Planet Earth and the damage done to it by modern humanity …
The film has breathtaking aerial footage from 54 countries …
Showing the pure beauty of our planet with amazing facts …
Glenn Close narrates the journey with very good original music …
We are shown the history of Earth how everything came about …
And how everything is interconnected and balance maintained …
It shows us how we … as the dominant species on this planet …
Has been brutally drilling in to our natural resources …
Without a thought about sustainability or future consequences …
It shows how far the ripples of our industrial decisions go …
It also shows us … towards the end of the film …
That there are cities … regions and nations … that have …
Made some forward thinking investments in to the future …
And how … we too can be responsible towards our only home …
I highly recommend this film to anyone and everyone …
Who has ever had a thought about our planet … our earth …
Watch this documentary … and be blown away …

With several High-Def movies now available for download …
I’ve been try to figure out a way …
To watch these movies on my 37″ Philips TV …
The problem I was facing was with the file formats …
As you may know … most HD movies come as .mkv files …
And most of the Multi Media players sold today …
Do not support this format … not even with latest firmwares …
So the best and easiest way to play these movies on my TV …
Was to connect a computer to my TV and fire up VLC …
However … connecting a computer to my TV …
Just to watch HD movies …was a bit of an overkill for me …
And so the research began … to solve this problem …
My answer came from Western digital … a reputable company …
I’ve been using their products for several years …
And they’ve never failed on me … they’ve earned my trust …
They’ve recently released their Multi Media Player …
It’s called WD TV … and reviews were sprouting up all good …
It was small … good design … sturdy build …
It handles a whole lot of audio and video formats …
The best part was it played .mkv files … at 1080p resolution …
It was available in a few shops in Male’ … I couldn’t wait …
I sold the Abigs divX player from Sarotech …
Ran out and bought WD TV … cheapest was at Formax shop …
Installation was simple … power and HDMI cables only …
Picture quality is good … I mean really very good …
User interface is nice … and the unit is silent in operation …
WD TVs has become very popular now … no surprises there …
And as with all other products that become popular …
WD TVs are being modded for extra functionality …

I’ve been neglecting my blog … and twitter is to blame …
In the past … I blogged at least a few times a month …
But now … its been almost 4 months since i blogged anything …
This micro-blogging thing is more/better than I thought …
I tweet several times a day … I throw out my thoughts …
I throw links to stuff that I find interesting …
I find twitter to be an easy avenue to be connected …
Also … I feel a sense of participation when on twitter …
Sometimes I even find it productive … I get good feedback …
I ask for an opinion … I get several before the day is done …
But i like blogging … and I wanna continue blogging …
I like the fact that I need time to think and compose a post …
I enjoy doing a bit of research on the subject I blog about …
It feels good … almost therapeutic … hehe …
I’ll try and blog more regularly now … I’ll really try…

Its been sometime since I blogged about gadgets …
But this sure is a good time to do so …
As you may know if you follow me on twitter …
I was having an iPhone … and I enjoyed it a lot …
I’ll be the first to say … the apple iPhone is a good phone …
Its a fancy device … its the smoothest touch phone ever …
But for me … it had some annoying limitations …
Bluetooth didn’t work … couldn’t forward text messages …
I couldn’t even send a contact’s detail to a friend …
(Yeah … i know about WeTool … it seldom works) …
These small annoyances can make one go mad pretty soon …
So I decided to get a new phone and started to explore options …
I finally settled on the new Nokia E71 … and sold my iPhone …
Believe me when I say this … Nokia E71 is an amazing phone …
Its really looks nice … and build quality feels really good …
It has a full qwerty keyboard and some kewl functions …
I use fring for IM/Skype … and twibble for twittering …
And ofcoz … I installed Opera Mini as my browser …
I’m testing push email on it … with emoze …
Its a very stable phone … haven’t crashed yet …
If you are in the market for a smart mobile device …
I recommend you seriously consider the new Nokia E71 …
That being said … I do have a small problem …
If I have a contact saved in the format +960xxxxxxx …
If I get a text message … the name would come up fine …
But if a get a call … it shows the number without +960 …
I’ve been told a firmware update would fix this …
But so far … there is no upgrade available for my phone …
I do know a guy who has the same Nokia E71 he bought in Dubai …
He doesn’t seem to have this problem with his phone …
So i guess it the software and a region setting … or both …
Any help in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated …

Been waiting to find time to upgrade my blog …
This week … I finally managed to do it …
I updated wordpress … to version 2.5 …
It wasn’t as easy as I expected … it never is …
I had some broken links after the upgrade …
Had to manually fix them … thats messed up …
I’ve mixed feelings about this latest version …
When you first login … its amazing …
The admin area is well done … its really nice …
The dashboard is really kewl … and makes sense …
I like the new stats feature built right in …
I also found a liked the fullscreen mode …
What i did not like was … media management …
Everything was ajax’ed and changed …
I still dunno my way around most of it …
Hell … I had to reupload most of my images …
Just to get my thumbnails to work …
May be I need some time getting used to it …
Also … I changed my hosting …
This blog was previously hosted on site5.com …
My new host is the Grid Service at MediaTemple …
It all the rage these days … with positive reviews …
Let me know how this blog works for you …
If its unusually slow or anything like that …
