Writing Dhivehi/Thaana on a Mac …

Hello …
I’ve been on the Mac for a few years now …
And I have used a Mac exclusively for two …
When I first contemplated getting a Mac …
People told me how unintuitive it would be …
Since we are all so used to Windows …
And that I won’t be able to get softwares for it …
Well … guess what … I’m still on the Mac …
And its the one of the best decisions I’ve made …
I admit it takes a few days to get accustomed to …
But after that … its a breeze to use … no problems …
Also the argument about not getting software …
Well I’ve been able to get any I wanted … google
For me … anything I could ever do on Windows …
I can do it on the Mac … more easily most of the time …
In all these years I’ve been using the Mac …
I always wanted to be able to write Dhivehi/Thaana …
I knew there were ways/workarounds …
But I never got around to doing it … until today …
I followed this guide over at Shahdy’s blog …
It explains in detail what one has to do …
And even links to the software needed …
Downloading and configuring took a few mins …
And now … I can write Dhivehi/Thaana on my Mac …
Nothing to it really … it was very simple …
So if you use a Mac … head over to Shahdy’s blog …
And set up you machine to write Dhivehi/Thaana …
It’ll save you a lot if time searching google

Hello …
Well … I’m back … you thought you lost me eh ??? Hehe …
I know its been a long time since I blogged …
I’ve neglected this blog for long … it needs a fresh start …
What can I say … Its not like I’ve been busy or anything …
It just blogging has not been a priority for me …
I just didn’t feel like writing … it takes an effort …
I just didn’t feel the need to share … but there was twitter …
But now I’m back … I feel guilty for procrastinating …
Yet I feel inspired again … or thats what I think …
This time … like every other time I’ve said this before …
I’m going to blog again … and in a regular fashion …
Thats about it for now …

As you may have heard … Snow Leopard is here …
Every other blog I read has something to say about it …
Most of the reviews say Snow leopard is generally good …
Everyone agrees that its a quick, easy and a cheap upgrade …
Naturally … I’m thinking whether I should upgrade …
So I ran a quick check to see if my MBP will fully support it …
And yes … my hardware will support Snow leopard … somewhat …
The problem is … I have a MacBook Pro from late 2006 …
It has an ATI RadeonX1600 Graphics card … not Nvidia …
Meaning I can’t get openCL or quicktime hardware acceleration …
Also … ioreg -l -p IODeviceTree | grep firmware-abi …
Returns a “firmware-abi” = <”EFI32″> … not “EFI64″ …
Which means I cant boot into full 64bit mode … bummer !!!
Apart from these … my MBP will run Snow Leopard just fine …
So you can understand why I’m not all excited here …
Anyways … what do you guys think … should I upgrade ???

In which Dr. Lisa Cummings and other Sigma operatives …
Search for answers to the deadly affliction …
While fighting off terrorists in islands of Indonesia …
Far away, another operative … Gray Pierce …
Thwarts the schemes of a murderous assassin …
A killer who may unknowingly hold the first clue …
To the discovery of a possible cure threatening the world …
Time is an enemy as Pierce and unlikely ally … a pretty ally …
Are drawn into an astonishing mystery hidden deep …
Deep in antiquity and in humanity’s genetic code …
The story is fast paced …blending science and history …
I really enjoyed the book and recommend it …
To anyone who enjoys fast action-packed thriller …

Why doesn’t google like HDC … ???

Hello …
These days its hard to have a coffee …
Without someone talking about politics or upcoming election …
But if time permits … some do talk about other stuff …
Like the submission of forms for the 488 flats in Hulhumalé …
As most of you … I wouldn’t mind getting a flat in Hulhumalé …
So … to get more information about the project …
I tried surfing to Hulhumalé Development Corporation website …
And something weird happened …
Google suggested not to visit the HDC site …
Said it may have software that might harm my computer …
This is the first it has happened to me …
Google asking me not to visit a local site …
So it got me thinking … why would HDC wanna harm anyone …???
There is nothing HDC can gain harming our computers, right … ???
So ask the tech guys out there … what is going on … ???

Hello …
I’ve been frequenting Nasandhura for around 12 years …
I’ve been a regular in their coffee shop for a bit more …
I’ve met some very good people while having my coffee there …
Over the years few of them have become my very good friends …
While others have become close colleagues easy to work with …
I’ve many memories attached to the place … mostly good ones …
And it makes me sad to see them prepare to close down …
I will miss my Malita black … I will miss the people I meet …
I will miss the environment … but most of all I will miss …
The Nasandhura … which had become part of my daily routine …

Got Myself A HDD Player …

Hello …
Happy Independence day to all …
Lots going on in Male’ …
Everyone seems to be enjoying it …
The lights … the shows … the crowds …
Stayed home most of the time …
Catching up on some movies …
Got myself an HDD player …
It plays all kinda video, audio and shows Jpegs …
The best part is … it can play VOB files …
So i can just rip the DVD and see it later …
No conversion or codecs necessary …
Very handy unit … well worth the price …
Also discovered that my TV doesn’t have an S-video …
That sucks … but i guess it can’t be that bad …

Just a quick note here …
About the latest fad in Maldives …
That everyone seems be getting in to …
Its called ring back tones …
And i tell you … its annoying …
A ring back tone is a personalized ring tone …
That can be set by subscribers through the network …
Instead of the usual ringing tone …
Subscribers can choose to play back …
The music of choice to callers …
This is a value added service …
And i tell you … it is VERY annoying …
First of all they cant even settle on a name for this …
In malaysia … its caller tone …
In philippines … caller ring tone …
In the west … ring back tone …
In Maldives … my tone …
I call it annoying a tone …
When using the desk phone at work …
I have a habit of putting the phone on speaker …
While i dial … and until the call is answered …
Now … when i dial … some stupid music play …
Annoying everyone near me with embarrassing music …
And i’ve this to say …
If they want me to listen to some hip hop tunes …
Through my phone’s tinny speakers …
Then they seriosuly don’t know me …
If i wanna lsiten to msuic …
I’ll play it … not call people …
I’m not against new things …
I’m not against technology …
But this just feels wrong …
I say traditional “ring .. ring” tone …
Is better, more functional, more practical …
Guess this is enough bitching …
About something i can’t change … hehe …

Visit to Huvadhu Atoll …

Hello …
Last week … it was hectic alright …
Had to fly out to Huvadhu Atoll …
Traveled all around the atoll …
The weather wasn’t so good …
And the ride around the atoll was very tiring …
The trip is gonna be unforgettable for 2 reasons …
One … the ride was so bumpy that …
I hit my head hard on the launch door jamb …
And got a cut right on top of my head …
The cut was so bad i had to get a tetanus shot …
Luckily, not so much blood was involved …
Second thing was …
I somehow managed to stop by my mum’s island …
My mum is originally from this atoll …
Though it has been a very long time …
Since she has been there …
I stopped by the island for 15 – 20 mins …
Had coffee with a cousin of mine …
He told me that i was the only one …
In my family who has not been there …
And he was very happy that …
I’ve finally managed to come …
The feeling was mutual …
I was happy to be there too …
Kinda felt weird … mixed feelings …
A mix of alienation and a feeling of belonging …
Dunno for sure … have to give it a bit more thought …
