Hello …
With several High-Def movies now available for download …
I’ve been try to figure out a way …
To watch these movies on my 37″ Philips TV …
The problem I was facing was with the file formats …
As you may know … most HD movies come as
.mkv files …
And most of the Multi Media players sold today …
Do not support this format … not even with latest firmwares …
So the best and easiest way to play these movies on my TV …
Was to connect a computer to my TV and fire up VLC …
However … connecting a computer to my TV …
Just to watch HD movies …was a bit of an overkill for me …
And so the research began … to solve this problem …
My answer came from Western digital … a reputable company …
I’ve been using their products for several years …
And they’ve never failed on me … they’ve earned my trust …
They’ve recently released their Multi Media Player …
It’s called
WD TV … and reviews were sprouting up all good …
It was small … good design … sturdy build …
It handles a whole lot of audio and video formats …
The best part was it played .mkv files … at 1080p resolution …
It was available in a few shops in Male’ … I couldn’t wait …
I sold the
Abigs divX player from Sarotech …
Ran out and bought WD TV … cheapest was at Formax shop …
Installation was simple … power and HDMI cables only …
Picture quality is good … I mean really very good …
User interface is nice … and the unit is silent in operation …
WD TVs has become very popular now … no surprises there …
And as with all other products that become popular …
WD TVs are being modded for extra functionality …

Hello …
I’ve been neglecting my blog … and twitter is to blame …
In the past … I blogged at least a few times a month …
But now … its been almost 4 months since i blogged anything …
This micro-blogging thing is more/better than I thought …
I tweet several times a day … I throw out my thoughts …
I throw links to stuff that I find interesting …
I find twitter to be an easy avenue to be connected …
Also … I feel a sense of participation when on twitter …
Sometimes I even find it productive … I get good feedback …
I ask for an opinion … I get several before the day is done …
But i like blogging … and I wanna continue blogging …
I like the fact that I need time to think and compose a post …
I enjoy doing a bit of research on the subject I blog about …
It feels good … almost therapeutic … hehe …
I’ll try and blog more regularly now … I’ll really try…

Hello …
Its been sometime since I blogged about gadgets …
But this sure is a good time to do so …
As you may know if you follow me on twitter …
I was having an
iPhone … and I enjoyed it a lot …
I’ll be the first to say … the apple iPhone is a good phone …
Its a fancy device … its the smoothest touch phone ever …
But for me … it had some annoying limitations …
Bluetooth didn’t work … couldn’t forward text messages …
I couldn’t even send a contact’s detail to a friend …
(Yeah … i know about WeTool … it seldom works) …
These small annoyances can make one go mad pretty soon …
So I decided to get a new phone and started to explore options …
I finally settled on the new
Nokia E71 … and sold my iPhone …
Believe me when I say this … Nokia E71 is an amazing phone …
Its really looks nice … and build quality feels really good …
It has a full qwerty keyboard and some kewl functions …
I use
fring for IM/Skype … and
twibble for twittering …
And ofcoz … I installed
Opera Mini as my browser …
I’m testing push email on it … with
emoze …
Its a very stable phone … haven’t crashed yet …
If you are in the market for a smart mobile device …
I recommend you seriously consider the new Nokia E71 …
That being said … I do have a small problem …
If I have a contact saved in the format +960xxxxxxx …
If I get a text message … the name would come up fine …
But if a get a call … it shows the number without +960 …
I’ve been told a firmware update would fix this …
But so far … there is no upgrade available for my phone …
I do know a guy who has the same Nokia E71 he bought in Dubai …
He doesn’t seem to have this problem with his phone …
So i guess it the software and a region setting … or both …
Any help in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated …

Hello…
A spanking new TV show has hit the tube …
Its called
Fringe … created by JJ Abrams of the Lost fame …
People say the show is a mix of Lost and the X-Files …
The story revolves around Olivia, a female FBI agent …
And her fight to uncover the truth and the Pattern …
I was never a fan of the X-files … but I did watch it …
I liked Lost when it started … I remember it was one of my favorites …
Then came too many questions … too many coincidences …
The answers came … but its was too little too late …
I hope this doesn’t happen with this show Fringe …
Cos the two episodes I’ve seen so far …
Has been very good … and gripping to say the least …
Fingers crossed … hope this gets to be a good show …

These days its hard to have a coffee …
Without someone talking about politics or upcoming election …
But if time permits … some do talk about other stuff …
Like the submission of forms for the 488 flats in Hulhumalé …
As most of you … I wouldn’t mind getting a flat in Hulhumalé …
So … to get more information about the project …
I tried surfing to Hulhumalé Development Corporation website …
And something weird happened …
Google suggested not to visit the HDC site …
Said it may have software that might harm my computer …
This is the first it has happened to me …
Google asking me not to visit a local site …
So it got me thinking … why would HDC wanna harm anyone …???
There is nothing HDC can gain harming our computers, right … ???
So ask the tech guys out there … what is going on … ???

Hello …
I’ve been frequenting Nasandhura for around 12 years …
I’ve been a regular in their coffee shop for a bit more …
I’ve met some very good people while having my coffee there …
Over the years few of them have become my very good friends …
While others have become close colleagues easy to work with …
I’ve many memories attached to the place … mostly good ones …
And it makes me sad to see them prepare to close down …
I will miss my Malita black … I will miss the people I meet …
I will miss the environment … but most of all I will miss …
The Nasandhura … which had become part of my daily routine …

Hello …
Okay … so this is the problem I’m having …
Every Friday … around 12 noon or there around …
When I wanna take a shower befor Friday Prayer …
The tap would just run dry … and stay dry …
On weekdays … the same happens around morning 7 …
Guess everybody who lives in the building …
Wanna take showers at the exact same times …
I’ve talked to some of my friends about this …
Especially those who live a few floors up …
And it seems they have the same problem …
I dunno about you … but for me …
Its kinda frustrating when I have to …
Run around in the toilet … trying to get wet …
This is like the smallest city in the world …
Seriously … how hard is it gonna be …
To up the water pressure … at these times …
I can understand that a pulsating shower head …
Or an aerated water stream may be difficult …
But come on guys … open up those valves …
Give us more water … we do pay for it right ???
